I am very proud of this GP Practice. Time and again they impress me with their responsiveness and the care they give to my whole family. The whole staff team are brilliant - the folks on reception, the practice nurses and the Drs. They work smart. Self service check-in and automated clear announcements of your call to a specific room Text message reminders Online call-back requests No 8am rush for emergency appointments with clogged phone lines and general frustration - they cracked that problem years ago! Instead, just go online and request a call back. I don't know how they do it but they have a very good triage system as whenever we've needed urgent advice and help, such as for our infant child, and us parents too, they've always called us/got us to come in, quickly. This morning, when, as in previous years, I've had a chest infection needing some medical intervention to shift, I have requested a call-back via a short survey with symptoms for the Dr to read and assess with my individual health record history, and then call me (if required - this morning it wasn't as the problem and treatment are clear to both me and the Dr), and by 09:20 THIS SAME MORNING, my treatment is ready to collect from my local nominated pharmacy. Just brilliant service, thank you.

After reading some negative reviews, I must write to compliment this surgery in every way. The helpful reception staff, ease of getting an appointment and most of all the amazing doctors. They go over and above any other surgery for myself, children and most of all my parents. I cant recommend highly enough!

  • Waiting times and appointments

I have been using the Rydal for a number of years and would agree that when the telephone call back system started there were teething problems. However over the last couple of years it has significantly improved. Having type 1 diabetes means that I often need to confer with my GP or Diabetes Nurse. Even having to wait for the receptionist or for the GP to call back is as far as I am concerned better than waiting in a waiting room queue all morning or afternoon . I can get on and do something rather than waste time. The Rydal is also one of the few surgeries that has a fully qualified Diabetes specialist who you can see by appointment. Recently in another capacity I have visited other Redbridge Surgeries which had huge queues where a strict 10 minute appointment system operated. When patients complain about having to wait for a GP to call back maybe they should consider that the GP is having to read into their records to refresh themselves on what is going on. Nothing is perfect but it is better than many people give it credit for. Brian Ray

  • Hit n miss reception staff

Constantly have the reception staff talk over me and on many an occasion - rude and unprofessional. Still no written results from my July check up - just a shoddy alternative screen shot and being told "well as least we've told you it's... !" I don't burden the NHS even though I've paid into it all of my adult life - no kids so I didn't take up the cost of nurses etc... but still me getting/or chasing for my results in writing is asking too much. I left a message for the surgery manager to call me to discuss and that didn't happen. Nice! I'll consider switching else where - I didn't even join this surgery, rather was transfered.

  • Excellent gp practice been a patient for 30 years

I joined this practice when I moved into the area 30 years ago and have always been pleased with the service I have received. The changes over the years in how the practice operate have been informed in advance and the Reception staff have been very helpful in explaining how the service works and have answered any queries. The call back service I have found extremely efficient enabling the GP to often prescribe medication which can be picked up from your local chemist to save you having to visit the surgery thus saving a lot of time. When working in the West End and finding it difficult to get to the surgery this was invaluable. If after speaking to the GP and it being decided an appointment was required it was always on the same day and if your own GP was not available then a duty Dr would see you. All the GP’s, Nurses and Reception staff are very good, caring and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommended the Practice to family and friends. Thank you to all the Drs, Nurses and staff.

  • Was unable to speak to a gp

Called the surgery with regards to my 5 year old daughter on a Monday as she was vomiting and having diarrhoea. Called around 5.15pm I understand if you need a GP call back you need to ring before 5pm my daughters symptoms had gotten worse and my first instinct was to call the GP but instead of helping the receptionist directed me to the out of hours my understanding is that the surgery is open till 6.30pm. I hardly visit my GP even for the kids and knowing that I can’t speak to my GP in an emergency has really put me down. This surgery use to be very efficient and provide the best service. I’ve been with this surgery now for over 10years but it has come to a point that I have decided to find another GP.

  • Good but inconsistent

I'd never had a problem getting an appointment with a GP but lately the reception staff have started being difficult about putting me through to someone on the basis that I 'didn't need to speak to a doctor'. Finally, I refused to describe my medical problem to the receptionist, so she told me I'd get a callback from a doctor but be left until last. The next time a receptionist insisted I didn't need to speak to a doctor, I took her word for it, only for her to call me back a few minutes later to advise that I DID in fact need to speak to a doctor. She said I would have to call back in 2 days to speak to my own GP. When I did so, asking for a callback from that GP, the receptionist arranged for a different GP to call back. Are the receptionists just flexing their muscles?

I like that they do call backs instead (where relaxant) of appointments - saves lots of time. Always very approachable Always take me seriously. I have always been able to get an appointment - sometimes on the same day as I call. I don't much like the online system - but it's better to talk anyway

The only time I have a little trouble is when I go abroad at the end of the year to stay with my daughter and husband. Very often (over the past years) although I send a letter with many details on it to how many I have at the moment and how many I actually need to be prescribed.iI never receive the correct amount and have to go again the surgery, perhaps once or twice to get it corrected. Otherwise the surgery is good.

  • Not a gp practice that cares at all

We left Rydal about a year ago after being totally disillusioned by the lack of care and dignity given by reception and GP staff alike . They have lost the plot as to what your local doctors is about...apart from the one or two positive reviews you have from very longstanding patients with special connections to particular doctors. Very sad!! Just to say at our new surgery it is the complete opposite ...friendly attentive reception staff who make you feel welcome, not a bother, and are very helpful. A range of access options (not just a G P will call you back in x hours!!) which include walk in and wait surgery every day including some Saturday's, phone appointments with friendly staff, and on line booking for advance appointments at your convenience.. GPs are professional and very attentive, informative and above all, caring.. Don't put up with a rubbish service ....move somewhere else, it's easy and you won't regret it.

  • Poor reception and call back service

I called the surgery to book a call back on two consecutive days at 16.20hrs and 14.50hrs. I was told both times all telephone call slots were booked up and I have to try again. However, the surgery website and telephone answering service say the request for call backs are accepted from 13.30hrs till 17.00hrs. The message also says the request won't be accepted if the calls are made outside the time. I felt the practice gives very misleading information to patients, in fact false hope. There is no message or direction what to do in an emergency. Health secretary Jeremy Hunt wanted GP surgeries to open from 8am till 8pm. But this surgery won't even accept an emergency request after 14.50hrs. The receptionists were unhelpful and did not give me any information regarding emergency access until I ask them. One of the receptionists reply was ' you can go to extended clinic service but I don't know where it is, somewhere in South Woodford ' then she said ' it is somewhere between Sainsbury's and International supermarket'. She was in an absolute hurry to put the phone down. I am very unhappy with this surgery.

Was always able to get an appointment when needed and was always called back by a GP within a couple of hours which I think is a great service! Reception staff were usually quite helpful too. I recently moved and am very sorry to have to leave this practice. I would definitely recommend it.

I've been at this Surgery for 20yrs. My experiences have varied depending on the GP. All have been Okay (not particularly empathetic, seemed rushed), but some have been great. I've had the odd occasion the GP treated me like they just wanted to get rid of me and were unengaged but that was rare. My biggest gripe is the staff at reception - some are so rude and unprofessional -they treat everyone that walks in like they are an absolute nuisance and idiot. Completely rude in any customer service situation but totally unprofessional given people are visiting the practice when feeling most vulnerable. And on the phone I've had staff be extremely rude - I dread calling them. However there are some staff that are very friendly and polite - it depends who you get. I remember once I was in for a very early nurses appointment and the staff read out a complaint letter including the name and address of the specific patient that the letter came from. The laughed and joked - I was not impressed. I may have been the only one in the waiting room, but they knew I was there. I was disgusted by this behaviour. Overall I wouldn't recommend this practice as I've polarising experiences

I have been dealing with the surgery for several weeks now on behalf of a sick relative. I was slightly apprehensive when first contacting them due to some reviews. Not once have I encountered a rude member of staff, the receptionists have been so helpful and yes sometimes they do have to ask personal questions, but this is what they have been instructed to do as part of their job. They have gone above and beyond with the help they have given me. I have also had dealings with the nurse who has helped me to no end and has given me excellent advice. I wish more surgeries were as approachable and friendly as this team is.

  • The creme de la creme surgery

Two years ago my husband and I were fortunate to be taken on by the Rydal Group Practice. I say fortunate because shortly after we joined, my husband was taken very seriously ill with a number of complaints, namely kidney failure, heart failure and diabetes which quickly escalated to other issues. I was very concerned and stressed as to how all these problems would be dealt with especially as we were so new to the surgery. I need not have worried. When I made my first bumbling call to book a callback, I was treated with such kindness and concern from the receptionist who took the details and arranged the callback, that I felt immediately relieved. I shortly received a call from the doctor with whom I had a very long conversation and who took the matter over. It was dealt with before I knew it. Since that first negotiation with Rydals, I have had too many phone calls and visits to mention but on every occasion, whether it has been with the wonderful team on reception or administration to nursing staff and all doctors, I can honestly say the treatment I have received has been courteous, patient, considerate and professional. Nothing seems to phase them and they will do all they can to help. Quite honestly, I do not know how I would get on without their support. That day two years ago, was our lucky day. Thank you everyone at Rydals. Well done to you all.

I have been using the diabetic clinic here for many years and have always been seen by a nurse who I've always found to be very professional, friendly, helpful and informative. I think that the clinic is excellent and would highly recommend it to anyone and feel privileged to have this service available to me.
