  • Great practice, great service!

A professional approach across all areas of the practice with a friendly and efficient staff who give support and time to provide one with the appropriate treatment. My wife and I have always felt valued as patients. The online booking system works well and is easy to use. The reception staff have always provided a helpful service and try to match one to the appropriate specialism of the medical staff. The practice is keen to receive constructive feedback and look for ways to innovate and expand their range of services.

I am writing this review to say what outstanding service I receive from everyone I contact in the reception and prescription teams at Irwell Medical Centre. I am aware I cannot name names, however, I really feel the whole team should be proud of themselves for their professionalism, care, accuracy and dedication to the practice. I often tell family and friends that my regular GP is the 'Best in Britain', but I sincerely believe that the reception and prescription teams played a huge part both in my life saving liver transplant operation and the care and recovery I received from the practice post transplant. So.. I wish to enter an excellent review and give them all my personal thanks. I do hope everyone in the reception office and the prescription department get to see my review and "Thank you".

Today I had my very first appointment after registering at irwell. I have recently been in hospital and have been very worried about the next steps. The nurse I saw this morning has been fantastic keeping me updated and chasing up letters and forms for me. It certainly makes the process alot less stressful! Very happy to be registered at such a fantastic place. Thankyou

Changed doctors because patients confidentiality has been breached twice in this practice via doctor and administrative staff. I am going to make a official complaint via PALS.

Mum moved in with my husband and myself as she had been diagnosed with a terminal lung condition. Throughout the time mum was registered at Irwell Medical Practice she received the best care and support. My husband and I were also supported by the staff wonderfully. We were never made to feel that we were being a nuisance and the doctors were always willing to do home visits. They treated mum with the utmost respect at all times and were so caring. We were signposted to other help available and we were so grateful for this. The District Nurses were fantastic too and cared for my husband and myself as well as mum. The reception staff were wonderful and did their very best to help whatever the problem. With the Practice's help mum passed away very peacefully, pain free, and with us at home which was exactly what we and mum wanted. We cannot thank everyone enough in making the last 2 years of mum's life comfortable and we are so grateful to be patients of this great practice

The reception staff gave me an early emergency appointment which was excellent. However the nurse practisioner within a couple of minutes said she had 2 people waiting and didn't have time! She said I would have to ring back at 12 to ask for another appointment and opened the door and ushered us out! If there wasn't time to see me they shouldn't have given me the appointment. I was made to feel that I had inconvenienced her and I rarely go to the doctors. I will be requesting a qualified doctor from now on.

  • Do not listen!

I joined the surgery about three months ago after I moved to the area. Since then I've received at least 5 letters and numerous phone calls about my having to come into the surgery for a consultation about medication they insist I'm taking. I am not taking medication of any kind! I've rung several times to tell them that I haven't taken this medication for over 6 years, nor are they prescribing it to me. They tell me they cannot understand why I am being sent such letters/calls and that they will sort it out. Today I've received what can only be described as a mildly threatening letter telling me that failure to come into the surgery for a consultation may result in them classing me as refusing treatment! Obviously, I am very concerned that they cannot get their records sorted and seem unable to communicate within their departments... I'm rightly concerned they will strike me off their lists all due to an avoidable error on their part. I do not feel safe with this practice, if they can't keep their patient records straight how can we expect them to treat us safely and correctly? I don't know what more to do. I hope that they see this review and act on it because contacting them direct does not seem to work.

The nurse greeted us with an amazing energy and she was very detailed in what she was doing. She helped my partner and I understand what is going on and to keep an eye out for any symptoms and she even went out of her way to solve a health inquiry I had left outstanding. 100% satisfied and happy with the level of professionalism we received from her.

I have been a patient in this practice for many years. Don’t always see the doctor you want but of the all the doctors and nurse practitioners in this practice have the good of patients at the heart of any consultation. If you are a bit late going in to your appointment, it’s because the person before you needed extra time. No problem! Their system of medication works very well, with a number of methods of communication available. Prescriptions can be ordered by phone, internet, letter or directly in the surgery. Couldn’t be more flexible. Prescriptions can be collected or delivered reliably in two or three days. Generally, this practice is excellent and I have no problem with recommending it most highly.

I transferred to this practice when moving within the valley. I never needed to use it really until I had my little one. So far I’ve had my 10 month in 4 times. Each time I’ve been given an appointment straight away, I’ve been treated kindly and curtious by all the staff and most of all I’ve come away feeling relieved. My most recent experience was this morning. Last night we rang 111 (Sunday) as my LO has a fever and servere cough. We were told an ambulance was on route, an hour later still no sign so we rang and cancelled it and made our own way to the urgent care unit. On route we were contacted and told they wouldn’t accept us as we had just returned from the Middle East and there was a virus being brought in to the UK. I corrected them as we had just returned from Indonesia (it would seem the 111 agent didn’t know her geography) on arrival at the urgent care unit we were triaged within an hour and told he was fine but if we wanted to see a doctor we would need to wait 4/5 hours. It was 11pm at night so we made the decision to come home. This morning I rang the practice at 8am. I had a very short wait and got through to a polite and friendly member of staff. They asked me similar questions to that of the 111 agent and got me an appointment for 9am. I went, was seen at 9am, was triaged in the same way as we were at the hospital. Had a diagnosis of Croup within 10mins. Given advice on things to do along with a fact sheet and handout. Prescription was given at the surgery and I was allowed to wait to make sure he had no reactions. I was there for the total of an hour. My LO is on the mend and I have been left feeling so at ease. Don’t be so quick to think your getting a better service at hospitals. To them your just another name on the list. If it can wait, see your GP and have the confidence that for that 15 mins your their priority. I cannot recommend this surgery enough. Everyone is friendly and professional

  • Holiday prescription

We were going on holiday straight from work at the end of June; when we got to work in Manchester we realised that we hadn't packed my BP medicine. I phoned the surgery and the receptionist very kindly arranged for the Doctor to do an electronic prescription so that I could pick up my medicine at Boots in Manchester the same morning. AThe receptionist then phoned me back to confirm that it had all been done and I could go and collect it. Excellent service as always.

I went to the doctors about knee pain. The doctor gave a good examination of the knee, gave me a number to ring for an x-ray and arranged for another doctor to give me a steroid injection a few days later. Both doctors were very courteous and helpful.

I have been with the practice quite a few years now and I consider the all round service excellent. The Doctors are understanding and efficient and easy to communicate with. The Practice Nurses are excellent, very proficient and extremely pleasant in the way they carry out their duties.. Turning to the District Nurses who operate from the Centre, they are outstanding and the care they provide on home visits is first class. Finally the reception and admin staff also provide a great service. I would highly recommend this Medical Practice.
